At the beginning of every year, the subject of health is brought up. Many people make (and keep) resolutions that deal with their physical, mental, and emotional health. I recently spoke with a man whose very career deals with the health and well-being of others. Meet Neil Mangus, the first La Porte County Life in the Spotlight of 2013.
Mangus was born in Elmhurst, IL and raised in South Bend, IN. There he attended Jefferson Elementary, followed by Warren Elementary, Dickinson Middle School and then La Salle High School. In high school, Mangus was very interested in biology, chemistry and other sciences. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a part of the medical field.

“Going the Distance for Cancer Care!” is the motto behind the La Porte Hospital Foundation's Tour De La Porte annual run/walk event. The event began after Larry Noel rode his bike across the United States to help raise money for the American Lung Association in 1999.
Noel said, “My family has been hit hard by cancer; my mother, my father, my brother and my sister have all dealt with cancer. I wanted to do something that would bring money to La Porte to help people that are dealing with cancer.”

Bley has lived in Indiana since she was a wee one. She was born and raised in Chesterton, IN and attended school from kindergarten through high school there. Upon graduation, Bley headed to Purdue and majored in Communications. She also minored in Political Science and French. This is one busy girl.
