Emily Waters of La Porte Hospital Finds Meaning and Pride in Bringing Accessible Healthcare to the Community
In the healthcare industry, it isn’t just anyone who can find their place and not only survive, but thrive and excel at what they do. One such person is Emily Waters, Director of Primary Care in the La Porte Physician Network, who was recently named Non-Clinical Manager of the Year.
The La Porte Hospital Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved a rendering of the new La Porte hospital, marking the next major development of the facility that is expected to open in 2020. The rendering, which may undergo some minor changes before the final design is complete, depicts a view that looks onto the main entrance, and shows the emergency department entrance to the side.

Living a philosophy of “man’s best friend also can be a healer,” Franciscan Health Crown Point celebrated the second anniversary of its Pet Therapy program recently, with a gathering in the hospital’s Marian Education Center that was attended by most of the team members and their canines. The program has brought relief and pleasure to hundreds of patients and their families throughout the hospital since its inception, thanks to the two-year effort of coordinator Julie Canady, an administrative assistant in the Franciscan Health Marketing Department. Six dogs initially joined the effort, which now has 27 canines, along with owners and other members.
Khendall Jones recently gave birth to the first child born at Franciscan Health Hammond this year and in the process, was the recipient of a three-hospital teamwork of obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit services.
